About Dr. Young
Dr. Young is a licensed psychologist in California and was trained in clinical psychology at Columbia University. He currently serves as a scientist and professor at the Weill Institute for the Neurosciences at the University of California, San Francisco. His academic training focuses on measurement and methodology, particularly how psychological constructs are defined, tested, and validated before being applied to individual cases. With extensive experience in psychodiagnostic evaluation, Dr. Young also has a strong background in severe mental illness, neuroscience, substance use, and psychopharmacology. He has led
multiple federally funded research projects and published extensively in peer reviewed journals on PTSD, impulsivity, and the neurobiology of traumatic stress.
Dr. Young founded Young Psychological Services on the conviction that psychological evaluation, whether for a court, counsel, or a treatment team, should meet the same standard as evidence-based science: clearly defined questions, validated methods, and conclusions that withstand scrutiny. These standards matter most in cases where the details are central to the questions and the decisions based on those questions are consequential and life-changing. It is this rigor that Dr. Young brings to evaluations for legal counsel, litigants, and clinical referrals alike, ensuring that his clients and the courts they serve receive clear, defensible answers to the questions that matter most.
